Marine Regression

A marine regression is a geologic process over a relatively short period of time during which the water retreats from the mainland back to the ocean, resulting in the expansion of deltaic sedimentary areas and the replacement of deep marine facies by shallow water facies. See “ Eustatic Movement”.
