The Maba Man site is a site of ancient human fossils that is located in a limestone cave in Shi Zi Hill (Lion Hill) in Maba Village, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. It was discovered in June 1958 by a local farmer, who found a broken human skull and several animal fossils. The skull contains the parietal bone, frontal bone, a large portion of the nasal bone and the right orbit. The Maba Man is an early Homo sapiens. Morphologically, the Maba Man is similar to the Neanderthal Man. His frontal bone is lower than that of modern human beings but higher than that of Peking Man. Fossils of 17 species of animals living together with the Maba Man have been found, including pandas, stegodons, rhinoceros, and Crotuta ultima. The uranium dating resulted in dates from the Late Pleistocene, 120,000 ± 10,000 ago.
