Lushan Global Geopark, China

This geopark is located in northern Jiangxi Province and south of Changjiang (Yangtze River) in eastern China, and it covers an area of 500 km²with outstanding geological landscapes and stratigraphic outcrops. The horst block (uplifted fault block) mountains, Quaternary glacial features, and stratigraphic sections of Quaternary glaciers and the Lower Proterozoic Xingzi Formation are geologically valuable. More than 100 important glacial geological sites have been discovered at Lushan Mountain, which record the entire process from niveal accumulation, glacier formation, glacial motion, erosion and transportation to sedimentation of clay and boulders. These features provide evidence of palaeo-climatic changes and represent the geological characteristics of eastern China. Their similarities with the Quaternary glacial features in the European Alps and North America provide great opportunities to study regional and global palaeo-climatic changes and geological evolution.
