Noting that the heritage of global citizens is increasingly threatened with destruction, Article 11 of the World Heritage Convention prescribes that “the World Heritage Committee shall establish, keep up to date and publish, whenever circumstances shall so require, under the title of ‘List of World Heritage in Danger’, a list of the property appearing in the World Heritage List for the conservation of which major operations are necessary and for which assistance has been requested under this Convention”. Since 1984, a new version of the ‘List of World Heritage in Danger’ has been published almost every year, which has provided not only good news about the termination of danger but also alerts of new additions to the list. In May 2018, 54 sites around the world were listed as being in danger and were required to take immediate actions to rectify and improve their situations.
