A land bridge is a narrow strip of land that links different land areas separated by seawater. Based on fossil studies, palaeontologists have postulated that the spread of ancient horses from North America to Eurasia and ancient elephants from Eurasia to North America occurred across the ‘Bering land bridge’ at the location of the present Bering Strait.
