Lake Turkana National Parks, Kenya
These parks are located in northwestern Kenya near the southeastern corner of Sudan and the southwestern corner of Ethiopia. It has a core protection area of 1,614 km2 after its extension in 2001. As the saltiest of the large lakes in Africa, Lake Turkana provides a unique laboratory for studying flora and fauna. The three connected national parks, which provide a transfer station for migratory water birds, are breeding sites for Nile crocodiles, hippopotami and various venomous snakes.
