Lagoons of New Caledonia, France
These lagoons are located northwest of New Caledonia in the southwestern Pacific, and they have a core protected area of 15,743 km2. The Lagoon Conservation Area contains six marine biomes that demonstrate the diversity of coral reef resources and related ecosystems in New Caledonia. It is also one of the three largest coral reef ecosystems in the world. The lagoon is home to a variety of corals and fish, and it is the most concentrated area of coral reefs in the world. In addition, several marine habitats are fully developed, including mangrove forests and seaweed habitats.
