This is a spring landscape consisting of the Baotu Spring, which ranks first among Jinan’s ‘Seventy-Two Springs’ and was given the title of ‘China’s Top Spring’. It is located in Jinan Baotou Park in front of Luoyuan Hall. According to the oracle inscriptions unearthed in Ayang, Henan Province, in 2002, the name Baotu Spring can be traced back to the Shang Dynasty 3543 years ago. There are three spring sections with constant flowing water. The stongest emerging flow can reach several feet high. In the vicinity of Baotu Spring, there are more than 30 famous springs, such as Jinxian (Gold Thread) Spring, Shuyu (Jade Cleansing) Spring, Xibo (Bowl Washing) Spring, Liuxu (Willow Catkins) Spring, Huanghua (Emperor Flower) Spring, Dukang Spring and Bailong (White Dragon) Spring, which altogether constitute the Baotu Spring group and are an ideal source of natural drinking water (Fig. 6).
