Jianghanichthys is a type of fish fossil found in the Jianghan area. It is flat, from oval to round in shape, and 6–8 cm long. The fish head is relatively small with a convex back, and the dorsal fin is in the middle of its body, nearly symmetrical to the pelvic fin. The caudal peduncle and caudal fin are short and orthomorphic. The fish fossils are brownish black with round scales. They have been discovered in the Palaeogene and Neogene greenish grey to grey shale and calcareous shale in Songzi, Hubei Province (Fig. 5).
