Is-Chigualasto/Talampaya Natural Parks, Argentina

These two natural parks are located in the desert along the border between the provinces of San Juan and La Rioja in western Argentina. This area is along the western edge of the Pampas Mountains in central Argentina and covers an area of 2,753 km2. It contains the most complete record of the continental fossils from the Triassic (245–208 Ma). The fossils of dinosaurs and ancient plants have revealed the characteristics of numerous Triassic vertebrates and natural environments. The park also contains numerous mammals.
