Banc d’Arguin National Park, Mauritania
This park is located in the coastal area of the southwestern part of the Dakhlet Nouadhibou Region, Mauritania, and covers an area of 12,000 km2. Bordering the Atlantic coast, the park ranges from 5 m below sea level to 15 m above sea level. It contains sand dunes, coastal swamps, small islands and shallow coastal waters. The contrast between the harsh desert environment and the biodiversity of the marine zone has resulted in a landscape and seascape of outstanding natural significance. A wide variety of migrating birds fly to this region to spend the winter.
