This geopark is located in Linzhou City, Henan Province, and was approved as one of the fifth group of national geoparks by the Ministry of the Land and Resources in August 2009. The main geological heritage in the geopark is the Linlushan Grand Canyon, which formed in Proterozoic quartzite and contains a well-developed N-S-trending fault on Taihang Mountain ridge. The formation of numerous gorges, cliffs, and springs can be attributed to erosion by many rivers in the Shanxi hinterland. The Hongqi Canal, which was constructed in a cliff at Linlushan, is an important man-made river and an important water conservancy project.
