This fauna is the fossil group located in the Neogene red beds in Hezheng, Guanghe, Dongxiang, Linxia, Kangle, and Jishishan Counties in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province. The fauna can be divided into 3 age groups: (1) Platybelodon fauna (approximately 12 million - 15 million years ago), (2) Hipparion fauna (approximately 7 million–10 million years ago), and (3) true horse fauna (approximately 2 million years ago). These fossils belong to 6 orders and approximately 70 genera and species of Reptilia and Mammalia. The main fossils include Platybelodon, Kubanochoerus, giraffes, Hezhengia, Hipparion and Testudinidae. These fossils have important scientific significance for research on the evolution of Palaeogene biota and the climate distribution and change in northwestern China (Fig. 9).
