The Hetao Man site is a site of ancient human fossils on both banks of the Salawusu River in Wushen Banner, Mu Us Desert, Ordos Plateau, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This site is also called the Relic of the Ordosian People. Between 1922 and 1980, several late Homo sapiens fossils, abundant stone artefacts and mammal fossils have been discovered in the 70-m-thick fluvio-lacustrine gravel-sand-clay layer in the river terraces along the Salawusu River. The sediments contained 23 pieces of human fossils, including a frontal bone, parietal bone, lower jaw bone, vertebrae, humeri, tibia, femur, fibula and a single incisor tooth. More than 400 artefacts were also found. The fossil fauna indicates that 35 species of mammals lived with the Hetao Man. The Hetao Man and the Salawusu fauna have been dated to 37,000 to 50,000 years ago by uranium dating.
