Heluo Stone

Heluo stone is a type of egg-shaped Yellow River (Huanghe) pebble found in Xin’an County and the Mengjin section of Huanghe, Henan Province. It includes clastic rocks, dolomite, limestone, gneiss, quartzite, granite and volcanic rocks that have complex causes of formation. Typical Yellow River Sun and Moon ornamental stone is from Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks. Heluo stone can be divided into pebbles and mountain stones, of which the Heluo painting stone is most attractive. Heluo stone has various colours, including red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and purple, interesting patterns with fine textures, such as landscapes, flowers and birds, characters, animals, and Chinese characters, which are rare and peculiar, and numerous types, such as peony stones, purple clay stones, plum stones, chicken liver stones, moire stones and snowflake stones (Fig. 7).
