This geopark is located in Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province along the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the eastern slope of Gongga in the middle of the Daxueshan Mountains. It became a national geopark in 2002. The main features include modern glaciers, hot springs, mountains and gorges. The main peak of Gongga Mountain is 7,514 m above sea level, making it the 11th highest mountain in the world. Hailuogou Glacier, which is 15 km long, extends to the original forest area at an elevation of 2,850 m. It is a modern glacier with the lowest elevation at that latitude. Its ice waterfalls are 500 to 1,100 m wide, and the ice tongue is 5.70 km long. Glacier arches and ice cracks can be observed. There are three hot springs with water temperatures between 50 °C and 80 °C, which provide perfect sites for hot baths.
