Nano-tribology Applications in Microprojector Technology

Definition

Microprojectors are being developed to project a larger image from a smaller display in handheld electronic devices such as cell phone, handheld PDA, etc. The technology associated with microprojectors has several applications of nano-tribology and those are described in this entry.

Introduction to Microprojector Technology

The capacity of high-speed wireless networks has enabled carriers to provide multimedia services to consumers such as web browsing, live television and gaming, etc. At the same time, the electronics industry is driving toward miniaturization which in turn led to the smaller size of displays on the electronic devices. The smaller display limits the full utilization and enjoyment of these services. Microprojectors have been proposed to address this issue. These devices can either be as an accessory to any electronic device or an embedded component within a mobile device.
