Erastus Henry Lee (February 2nd, 1916 in Southport, United Kingdom; May 17th, 2006 in Lee, New Hampshire, USA) was a prominent mechanician with fundamental contributions to plasticity, viscoelasticity and wave propagation. He was a professor of applied mathematics and mechanics at Brown University (1948–1962), Stanford University (1962–1982), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1982–1992). Lee received his PhD degree from Stanford University in 1940, where he was a doctorate student of Stephen P. Timoshenko. In recognition of his distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics, he was awarded the Timoshenko Medal in 1976.
