Disease due to infections with Heterophyes species via oral uptake of uncooked infected fish.
Main clinical symptoms: Diarrhoea, abdominal pain.
Incubation period: 1–3 weeks.
Prepatent period: 1–2 weeks.
Patent period: 2–6 months.
Diagnosis: Microscopic determination of eggs in faecal samples (Fig. 1, 603).

Prophylaxis: Avoid eating raw fish.
