Definition
A collective term embracing a number of clinical problems that involve the masticatory musculature, the temporomandibular joint and associated structures, or both. Temporomandibular disorders have been identified as a major cause of nondental pain in the orofacial region, and are considered to be a subclassification of musculoskeletal disorders. Also sometimes referred to as craniomandibular or temporomandibular (joint) dysfunction.
