Definition

The medullary dorsal horn is a caudal portion of the subnucleus caudalis of the spinal trigeminal nucleus, which has laminated cytoarchitecture analogous to the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The medullary dorsal horn plays a major role in the processing of nociceptive information from the head, face, and mouth regions.
