Definition

Numerous committees since 1961 have been charged with space activities in Brazil. In February 1994, the Brazilian Space Agency was established with the Department of Science and Technology. The agency is partnering with four institutes in charge of specific missions. The National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in charge of developing satellites and products for civilian use, the Institute of Aeronautics and Space in charge of developing planes and the launch vehicles, and two launching bases in Alcantara and Barriera do Inferno.
