Definition
Temporary partial or complete loss of motor and sensory function due to blockage of nerve conduction, resulting in nerve paralysis in the absence of peripheral degeneration. Typically, it is caused by a blunt neural injury due to external compression, resulting in prolonged pressure and ischemia of the nerve. Myelin sheath has temporary damage but the nerve remains intact. Once nerve conduction is restored, there is complete and relatively rapid recovery of motor and sensory functions of the nerve. This is the mildest classification of peripheral nerve injury.
