Definition

UPA; an activator of plasminogen that is distinguished from  tissue-type plasminogen activator by its ability to regulate cell behavior and tissue remodeling upon binding to its specific cell surface receptor. Serine proteinase converts plasminogen to enzymatically active plasmin, an anticoagulant. It is overexpressed in a variety of malignant tumors with poor prognosis.
