Definition

A macula is a dark spot or dark area on the icy  Satellites Europa ( Jupiter),  Titan ( Saturn), and  Triton ( Neptune). Maculae have circular, elliptical, elongate, or irregular shapes. Various processes that can create these features are in discussion, for example,  cryovolcanism (e.g., Ganesa Macula on Titan).
