1977 CZ. Discovered 1977 Feb. 13 by E. Bowell at Palomar.

Named after the English poet John Keats (1795–1821), who wrote of the thrill he experienced when he opened a folio edition of Chapman’s translation of Homer {see planet  (5700)}. His poem On First Looking Into Chapman’s Homer, written in 1816, includes the words: “Then felt I like some watcher of the skies/When a new planet swims into his ken”. (M 16247)
