Named in honor of Françcois Arago (1786–1853), since 1843 director of the Paris Observatory, life-secretary of the Academy of Sciences, politician and author of the four volume Astronomie Populaire (1854–1857). (H 96)
Arago is also honored by craters on Mars and the Moon.
