Definitions

Energy security is one of those terms that are fiercely discussed and as a consequence have lots of different definitions. They result from phenomenon’s high contextual and subject dependence. It means that energy security may have different meaning for different people/countries, at different time (Kruyt et al. 2009). Therefore, it seems reasonable to use definitions provided by international bodies specialized in the energy markets’ analysis. According to one of such explanations, energy security involves uninterrupted supplies of energy available at reasonable prices (IEA 2018a). Superiority of this understanding above others relies upon its general use, which makes it available for use in any energy market regardless of its structure and challenges.
