456413_0_EnThe Hispanic EPESE (H-EPESE) has been the primary source of information on aging in the Mexican American population since its inception in 1993–1994. The H-EPESE is an on-going National Institute on Aging (NIA) funded longitudinal cohort study covering 23 years that provides information on sociodemographic, health, and psychosocial characteristics, as well as health care needs of community-dwelling Hispanic older adults, aged 65 years and older, residing in the five southwestern states of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas (Markides et al. 1997).

The original 3,050 subjects, aged ≥65 at baseline in 1993–1994, were followed up in 1995–1996 (N = 2438), 1998–1999 (N = 1980), 2000–2001 (N = 1685), and 2004–2005 (N= 1167) when subjects were ages ≥75.
