Definition

International emergency management is a complex system that includes response and recovery efforts that take place in countries with little or unstable infrastructure and lack of consistent resources.

Introduction

In this section, an overview of concepts relevant to international emergency management will be discussed to provide a foundation for understanding how conflict, natural disasters, and climate change affect different groups of people globally. In addition, a brief description of key international organizations will be reviewed. Responding to international emergencies requires tremendous communication, coordination, and execution on every level, from local resources, to regional, to international. As the world faces the looming threat of climate change and environmental degradation as a result of human behaviors, international crises become inextricably tied to increased natural disasters, less resources, and human conflict.
