Definition

A deployment is a movement of military personnel from a permanent duty station to another location or area for a strategic purpose. The size of a military unit being deployed may consist of anywhere from a small detachment of a few service members to large units of up to several thousand service members. Deployed units may be located at a static base, aboard ships, or move frequently based on strategic or tactical needs. Deployments may last for short intervals to more than a year and may entail a range of purposes from strategic positioning in peacetime to open warfare.
