Iowa Scales; ISPC

Description

The Iowa Scales of Personality Change (ISPC; Barrash et al. 1997a) were designed to assess personality disturbances that may develop in social behavior, executive control, mood, affect, and drive in patients with brain lesions in prefrontal cortex or elsewhere, and neuropathological disorders. The ISPC includes 30 behaviorally anchored rating scales, with points along the scale accompanied by rating guidelines with behavioral examples to enhance reliability (Schwarz 1999), and to explicitly focus raters’ attention on enduring behavioral tendencies in evidence across a variety of situations. Ratings are made by a spouse or family member who has known the patient well both before and after development of the neurological disorder. Accordingly, this assessment is completed without adding any time to the patient exam. Two ratings are made for each trait: characteristic functioning over the adult years prior to the onset of the neuropathological...
