Description

The psychological health assessment questionnaire (PHAQ) is a brief self-report questionnaire to assess psychological health in persons with rheumatic diseases. It forms part of the multidimensional health assessment questionnaire (MDHAQ), which also measures the impact of a patient’s illness on their ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), along with ratings of pain, fatigue, and beliefs regarding coping and perceived helplessness. Respondents rate how able they are at the present time to (a) get a good night’s sleep, (b) deal with the usual stresses of everyday life, (c) deal with feelings of anxiety or being nervous, and (d) deal with feelings of depression or feeling blue. Ratings are made on a scale of 1–4 (1 = without any difficulty, 2 = with some difficulty, 3 = with much difficulty, 4 = unable to do).
