Resource Management Plan

A document guiding all future actions on a specific land management unit with the aim of keeping public lands healthy while maintaining compliance with authorized purposes and considering desires of stakeholders.


Within the United States, Resource Management Plans (RMPs):
  • Are prepared for public lands or when federal funds are used, as required by law

  • Are guiding documents prepared by federal agencies to provide an overall strategy for managing and protecting natural and cultural resources or developing public land in alignment with legislation, regulation, policy, and agency guidance

  • Contain natural and cultural resource information that is pertinent to future management of the area and development of sound practices when implementation occurs

  • Are typically geospatial, indicating areas that are appropriate...
