Basic Biographical Information

Núñez Jiménez was born in the town of Alquizar in the present-day province of Artemisa, Cuba, on April 20, 1923. He was awarded a Bachelor Degree in Science and Literature at the Secondary School in Havana. He had deep concern for nature, and in 1940 (Álvarez 1956), he founded the Speleological Society of Cuba, together with several young friends, including Omar Sanchez, Osvaldo Aguirre, and Arturo Díaz.
