Definition

It is the restricted ability for retaining a limited amount of information for active usage in the brain for a brief duration.

Introduction

Memory is the special ability to store and retain any stimulus for future usage. It can be explicitly divided into two types depending of the duration of the stimulus: short-term (STM) and long-term memory (LTM). There are many further types of memories to be classified under these broad categories. External stimuli are stored in the form of memory by the neural circuit of the neocortex in the brain. Various models have been proposed to define the working of STM and LTM. The modal model of Atkinson and Shriffrin states that short-term memory storehouse can transfer the STM to LTM if kept for a long duration. On the other hand, the contradiction by the research of Tulving and Pearlstone denies this connection (Eduardo and Francisco 2017).
