Oleniy Island (Deer Island) – is located in the Strait of Ovtsyn of the Kara Sea, at the entrance of the Yenisei Gulf. It is formed by frozen deposits and its formation is progressing. It was partially described in 1921 by the Special Ob-Yenisei Hydrographic Detachment under the leadership of the hydrographer K.K. Neupokoev and, apparently, received its name at the same time, after the nearby Oleniy (Deer) Peninsula.
