Introduction
Environmental problems are related to the development of the humankind society. Along with its history, humans have utilized the natural resources to develop tools and technologies and improve their quality of life. However, with the exponential population growth, the need for the exploitation of the natural resources also increased on an unprecedented scale (Schmitz and Rocha 2018). The humans’ actions affected the environment and harmed it at several levels, promoting its degradation. In this way, considering that the natural resources do not regenerate that fast as they are consumed and the future of the humankind, the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) (1987) proposed a new concept of development, i.e., a sustainable development.
