\is-▐pär-(▐)tō-\ Hard vegetable wax obtained from esparto grass, indigenous to North Africa and parts of Spain. It is used to some extent as a substitute for carnauba, candellia, and similar hard waxes. Properties: mp, approximately 71°C; acid value, 30, saponification value, 75.
