Introduction

The International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR) is an international association registered as a nonprofit organization in the United States. ISTR is dedicated to promoting research and education in and about civil society, philanthropy, and the nongovernmental sector. ISTR brings together scholars and others to exchange and advance knowledge on a global as well as local level about the third sector, human well being and international development. As of 2008, ISTR was comprised of 748 members from around the world.

Brief History

The International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) was founded in 1992, and from its establishment, has been housed in the Johns Hopkins University Institute for Policy Studies.
