Introduction

The International Federation for Human Rights, known by its French acronym FIDH, is a federation of nongovernmental human rights organizations striking to improve the prevention of human rights abuse and the sanction of perpetrators. Today, 155 organizations in approximately 100 countries are part of the federation.

Brief History

French and German national human rights groups initiated the federation in 1922 as the first international human rights organization. Already in 1927, FIDH proposed a Worldwide Declaration of Human Rights and an international criminal tribunal. FIDH established the first fact-finding and observation missions after World War II.
