Description
The Katz Index of Activities of Daily Living (Katz ADL) is designed to assess functional status, specifically, the client’s ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) independently. Clinicians will typically use the tool to detect problems in performing activities of daily living to either predict the future function and level of care or for treatment planning purposes. The index ranks adequacy of performance in the following six functions: bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, continence, and feeding. If no supervision, direction, or personal assistance is required, then 1 point is given to that functional activity. If the client requires supervision, direction, personal assistance, or total care, then a 0 is assigned to that functional activity.
