Action

Root—diuretic. Plant—rubefacient; used for muscular pains and headache.

Several aristolactams have been reported from the aerial parts of the plant. Crotepoxide exhibited significant antitumour activity.

Roots contain alkamides including piperine, piperlonguminine and guineensine.
