Definition

Acquired tumor of neural crest origin, characterized by cells with eosinophilic cytoplasmic granules

Pathogenesis

Possible tumor derivation from Schwann cells

Clinical manifestation

Discrete, asymptomatic, firm, flesh-colored nodule, located within or beneath the dermis, occurring in the tongue, head, and neck region or dorsal aspect of the forearms

Differential diagnosis

Fibroma; squamous cell carcinoma; wart; dermatofibroma; neurofibroma; epidermoid cyst

Therapy

Surgical excision
