Synaptic Efficacy

Reference work entry
DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/3-540-29623-9_8854

Definition

The synaptic efficacy E is dependent on three parameters: The number of release sites n, the probability of neurotransmitter release Pr, and the amplitude of the signal per synaptic contact, the so-called quantal amplitude q. The synaptic efficacy is a measure of the strength of a given synaptic connection.
