A civil international organization established to promote standardized telecommunications systems on a worldwide basis. Common abbreviation ITU. Note: The ITU-R and the ITU-T are committees of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is in Geneva, Switzerland.
