A control character that (a) is used to select and make a change in the specific shape or size of the graphics for a set of characters and (b) does not change the character itself. Note: Examples of a font change character are (a) a character that denotes a change of a given character from Roman to italic, such as from “a” to “a,” (b) a character that denotes a change of a given character from italics to boldface italics, such as from “a” to “a,” and (c) a character that denotes a change from a set of Roman letters to a set of corresponding Greek letters, such that if “a” is keyed, “α” will be printed or displayed.
