(1) A machine that mimics the real world (e.g., a vehicle or weapon system) by generating cues for the operator(s), accepts inputs by the operator(s), and simulates the proper responses. The cues may include visual, auditory, and tactile sensations. The operator inputs consist of manipulation of control systems similar to those of the simulated equipment. Examples include vehicle and flight simulators. See Control theory. (2) The computer code of a simulation model (e.g., Monte Carlo or discrete-event type).
