Running-key

In a stream cipher, the running-key, also called the keystream, is the sequence which is combined, digit by digit, with the plaintext sequence for obtaining the ciphertext sequence. The running key is generated by a finite state automaton called the running-key generator or the keystream generator (see stream cipher).
