Zhanjiang Huguangyan National Geopark, Guangdong

This geopark is located 20 km southwest of Zhanjiang City and 4 km west of Huguang Town. The national park is under the jurisdiction of the Xiashan District of Zhanjiang. It became a national geopark in 2002. The main geological remains are craters and ring-shaped volcanic hills around the lake. After the eruption of Huguangyan volcano 150,000 years ago, the volcanic crater formed the lake. It is a typical maar volcano, and the deposits are well-preserved and complete. The flow structures of the eruptive materials are clearly exposed. After diagenesis, they were destroyed by faults and can be seen everywhere, providing evidence for studies of volcanic diagenesis and neotectonic movements.
